"Free"

Track #4 - Free

“Free” is the final track on my EP. I had come home from a piano lesson with a friend and decided to record myself playing around on the keyboard. Months later, I found the recording and started singing to it. It was the first time I experienced writing to my own music and the words came fast. It’s about the feeling that accompanies true love- freedom. If it tries to clip your wings, it isn’t love. Real love is selfless and free- it wishes for you to remain as you are, yet supports you to soar higher than you thought possible.

"Pretty Face"

Track #3 - Pretty Face

This song actually started many years ago! I was working with my talented producer friend, @RobertoHorns. He produced this uptempo track to ignite the writing process and I quickly started humming the melody. It didn’t take long for the words to come and I knew what I needed to do: I needed to call out all of the Pretty Boys! For how effortlessly they get what they desire and how reckless it can be for those who accidentally get caught up in their web. I think men AND women can relate.

"Mourning After"

Track #2 - Mourning After

This song is about that moment when the sun comes up, reality strikes and you realize “what you thought this was” isn’t really “what it was” at all. You’ve wasted a part of yourself for nothing and to make matters worse, the person beside you can’t even see that you’re not “just anybody.” That combination of anger and shame led me to create something out of the feeling of being nothing.

I sang the melody and wrote the lyrics with no music. I even considered making it a cappella. However, once I started carving out a track, I was able to emphasize my words and keep it bare at the same time.

"Rise"

Track #1 - Rise

The EP begins with the title song, “Rise”, about my journey since arriving to Los Angeles. It’s about perseverance, disappointments and wanting to put the mic down but never being able to leave it on the floor for very long. It’s about facades and maneuvering as a sheep amongst wolves. Mostly, it’s about resurrection and getting back up to begin again.

My journey into music production began with this song, 1 year ago. I had the words and melodies, but because the story was so personal to me, I knew I needed to be able to create the sounds I heard to go along with it. I spent many nights and many days exploring, uncovering, scrapping and restarting, just to catch a glimpse of where I wanted this to be and what I wanted it to feel like. Production is a WHOLE other ball game, but it’s given me an extra limb- a new way to express and create more fully and “Rise” started it all!
